RaceWorth™

Scorecard

CCC vs OCC vs TDS scorecard

Chamonix week is four races if you count the icon 174. These three are the rest. OCC is the short mountain day. CCC is the 100K where worth outruns demand. TDS is the harder long line, demand 5, not an icon. Same town. Not the same ticket.

OCC for the short Chamonix mountain day, CCC for the 100K with real Worth, TDS when you want the harder long line without the UTMB icon.

No blended index. Low Worth is the take.

Worth

CCC is the Mont Blanc 100K that is allowed to be worth more than it demands. Demand is 4: Courmayeur to Champex to Chamonix, about 108 kilometers and 6,200 meters of climb, late August, the same cols and storms as the flagship, a long alpine day that becomes a night if you are honest about your pace. It is not 5 because it is not 174 kilometers and because the technicality is TMB-family trail, not a scramble. It is not a 3 because this is still a mountain 100K in three countries, not a lakeside loop with a World Series sticker.

Worth

OCC is the short mountain day on UTMB week, and the score is allowed to say that without sneering. Demand is 3: about 60 kilometers and 3,500 meters of climb from Orsières through Champex toward Chamonix, late August, TMB-family trail, a field that is deep because the town is deep. It is not 4 or 5 because it is not a 100K and because the technicality is a famous hiking trail. It is not a 2 because 3,500 meters of alpine climbing is still a mountain race, and because Chamonix in August is not a local 50K.

TDS is the long race in Chamonix week that people who actually like mountains talk about when the 174 is the one people photograph. Demand is 5: Sur les Traces des Ducs de Savoie, on the order of 145 kilometers and 9,100 meters of climb, a wilder and more technical line than the TMB loop, a Monday start, nights, storms, a cutoff that does not care that you are not in the flagship. It is not a 4 because denser vert on a meaner trail is the top of the demand scale even if the distance is shorter than UTMB. Technicality is a 4. Vertical is a 5. That pairing is the card.
