The card
The race formerly filed as Ultra-Trail Mt. Fuji is now Mt. FUJI 100. We score the product under the name it uses, and we keep the slug so the card does not vanish in a rebrand. Demand is 4: about 165 kilometers around Fuji, on the order of 7,500 meters of climb, Japanese mountain trail, night, possible snow on the high ground in late April, a lottery, a loop of the five lakes. It is not 5 because the technicality is not Diagonale and because altitude is 2,400 meters rather than a San Juan night. It is not a 3 because a hundred miles around that volcano is a mountain 100.
Worth is 5 because Fuji is the product. People fly to Tokyo and take the train to the five lakes for this mountain in the middle of the course, and they should if they wanted this sport. A rebrand does not change the massif. It changes the URL. Organization confidence is medium. mtfuji100.com is the public face of a mature event under a new name.
The next date is not yet posted by the RD. If you wanted Hong Kong steps, that is a 93 km card in January. If you wanted an Alps 100, look at UTMB or TDS. If you wanted a mountain 100 that is actually a volcano in the photographs because the volcano is the course, this is the East Asian answer. Destination, not icon. Icon in this catalog is a short list. Fuji does not need to be on it to be worth the flight. We noted the rebrand. We did not hide it. We did not treat a new logo as a new race.
