Worth the flight if the mountains match what you want.
The card
Speedgoat is still one of the hardest 50Ks in the United States, and that sentence is now printed on a UTMB page. The course from Snowbird Center hits Hidden Peak, Baldy, scree, and about 11,400 feet of gain in 50 kilometers. Demand is 4 because that vert in that distance is a mountain race, not a 50K. It is not 5 because it is still a day, at a resort, with aid, and because 11,000 feet is not Hardrock's average.
Worth is 2 on purpose. The Wasatch from Snowbird is worth seeing. The weekend is a destination if you specifically want this beating. The UTMB overlay is the tax: World Series branding, Index, the sense that a Karl Meltzer mountain race was acquired rather than hosted. Promoters cannot buy our number. They can buy a circuit, and they did. Value is a 2. Organization is a 4 with high confidence. The event is professionally run and publicly documented. Competence is not independence.
Date and fee stay on speedgoat.utmb.world. If you want Utah mountains without the sticker, Wasatch and Bear are in this catalog. If you want the 11,400 feet, this is still the 50K, overlay and all.
Hidden Peak, Baldy, Chips Switchbacks, the Cirque: the names are ski-area names, and the climbing is not a ski-area joke. 11,400 feet in 50 kilometers is why demand is 4. The World Series page is why worth is 2. We will not launder a circuit acquisition into a 5 because the ridgeline is pretty. We will not skip it because the overlay is annoying; the mountain is still there. Date and fee stay on speedgoat.utmb.world. If you already live in Salt Lake, this can be a local savage 50K with an expensive sticker. If you are flying, ask whether you wanted Wasatch 100 or a 50K with 11,000-foot repeats. Those are different weekends.
Who it is for
Strong climbers who want a brutal 50K on Snowbird's ridges and will tolerate a UTMB World Series event to get it.
Who should skip
Anyone allergic to stones, Index, and resort ultras, or anyone who wanted a 50K that is actually 50 kilometers of running.

A 50K that climbs like a short mountain 100. The format is the vert, not the miles.
Official ~11,400 ft of gain in 50 km. This is the demand.
Scree, ridges, ski-area steep. Technical, not a path 50K.
Late-July Wasatch: sun, storms, snow possible in gullies.
Hidden Peak around 11,000 ft. Real, repeated, not a 14er sit.
Snowbird resort weekend is easy. The UTMB wrapper is the logistics tax.
Karl Meltzer's course with a World Series sticker. Field is fast; brand is the problem.
Professional, marked, resort-scale. High competence, corporate ownership.
You pay circuit pricing for a mountain that was already there. Value is the worth ding.
Wasatch ridgelines from Snowbird. The views are a 4; the overlay is why worth is 2.
