The card

Miwok is the California 100K where worth is allowed to beat demand without becoming a brochure. Demand is 3: sixty-two miles, over 11,000 feet of gain, Stinson Beach to the Headlands and Tam, singletrack and dirt, a competitive front and a long day for everyone else. It is not 4 or 5 because the altitude is coastal, the technicality is trail, and the weather is Marin in May rather than a monsoon or a canyon furnace. You can have a hard 100K that is still not a mountain 100. This is that card.

Worth is 4 because the place is the product. Redwoods, ridgelines, cliffs, a finish in a town that still looks like a town. People fly for this 100K. That is destination, not regional. Lake Sonoma is the nearby 100K we would not tell you to cross a continent for. Miwok is the one we would. The Headlands are not a consolation prize for missing the Sierra Crest. They are a different sport: coastal climbing, fog, Pacific air, views that do not need a 14er to justify the weekend. Organization confidence is medium. The public description is consistent: excellent marking, volunteer culture, professional medical at aid.

The next edition is May 1, 2027. If you wanted Western States Trail, that is Canyons, with a circuit tax. If you wanted a mountain 100 in California, Angeles Crest is the other problem. If you wanted a 100K that is actually worth the weekend because of where it is, this is the card in this batch. Not a 5. Not a skip. Destination, on purpose. Worth beating demand is allowed when the place is the product.

Who it is for

Runners who want a coastal 100K with views that justify the flight, and who do not need 13,000-foot passes to feel they traveled.

Who should skip

Altitude chasers and anyone who will be disappointed that Marin is not the Sierra Crest.
