Scorecard · is it worth it?

Worth the flight if the mountains match what you want.

The card

Hong Kong 100 is in this catalog as a mountain-trail 100K next to a city, and the 2026 product is 93 kilometers after landslides. We note that. We do not hide a clean 100. Demand is 4 because ninety-three technical kilometers of Sai Kung steps, rock, humidity, and coastal-mountain climbing is still a mountain day at the top of the 100K scale. Technicality is a 5. Altitude is a 1. Those two numbers together are the card, the same argument Superior makes with a Great Lake. Feet fail here for reasons that have nothing to do with thin air.

Worth is 4, destination. People fly to Hong Kong for this trail, and they should if they wanted this sport in January. The country parks are the product, not Victoria Harbour. A shortened course is not a reason to drop a destination 4 into a skip. It is a reason to score the line that actually exists. Organization confidence is medium. hk100-ultra.com is the public face.

The next edition is January 23, 2027. If you needed 100.0 kilometers for a story, this is the wrong year. If you wanted an East Asian mountain 100K that is actually technical, this remains the card. We are not going to pretend a landslide never happened. We are not going to take the race off the list because the kilometer marker moved. Destination 4/4. City in the distance. Trail underfoot. That is the weekend.

Who it is for

Technical trail runners who want a humid, stepped, coastal-mountain 100K in January, and who can live with a 2026 line shortened by landslides.

Who should skip

Anyone who needed a full 100 km for a qualifier story, or anyone who thought Hong Kong meant runnable urban. This is steps.

Distance & format
How much does the advertised distance and format actually ask?
4 out of 5

We score the 2026 product: 93 km after landslides, not a clean 100. Still a long technical day.

Vertical
How serious is the climbing, not just the mile marker?
4 out of 5

Thousands of meters of coastal-mountain climbing. Repeats, not a 14er.

Technicality
Hands, poles, route-finding, or just a long dirt road?
5 out of 5

Steps, rock, humidity, technical Hong Kong trail. Technicality 5 without altitude as an alibi.

Climate
Heat, monsoon, ice, or a friendly summer afternoon?
3 out of 5

Late January: the runnable season, still humid, still capable of rain. Not a monsoon 100K.

Altitude
Does the air change the race, or is it a talking point?
1 out of 5

Sai Kung hills, not a 14er. Feet and steps fail before lungs.

Logistics
How hard is the weekend around the race: travel, crew, lodging, rules?
3 out of 5

A city-adjacent mountain 100K. Easy airport, dense trail. Destination because of the trail, not the wilderness.

Prestige & field
Does the start list and history change what the weekend feels like?
4 out of 5

A deep Asian mountain-trail field, UTMB-world adjacent. Not an Alps icon.

Organization
From public evidence, does the event look competently run?
4 out of 5

Long-running, publicly documented. The landslide shortening is public. We note it.

Value
Entry fee, travel tax, and lottery friction versus what you get on course.
3 out of 5

A destination 93 km if you wanted this trail.

Adventure & scenery
Would you fly for the place even if nobody kept score?
4 out of 5

Sai Kung country parks, coast, granite. City in the distance. Real mountain-trail, not a harbor run.
