UTMB Mont-Blanc
This page restates the race director's required equipment list in the RD's wording so you can see what must be carried. It is a reading aid, not product advice. If the official rules change, the source linked below controls.
ID
Passport or ID card.
Smartphone
With the LiveTrail application installed and activated, with international roaming enabled for use in the three countries the race crosses.
The runner must be reachable at any time before, during and after the race. Keep the phone on; airplane mode is forbidden and could give rise to penalties. An external battery is highly recommended.
Water container(s)
Sealed, resealable container(s) capable of carrying at least 1L of water, designed for hydration. Plastic bags are prohibited.
1.5L is recommended for UTMB.
Survival blanket
Minimum 1.40m x 2m.
Whistle
Jacket with hood
For bad weather in the mountains. The jacket must be made of a waterproof and breathable membrane (minimum recommended 20,000 Schmerber; RET recommended inferior to 13). The jacket must, imperatively, have an integrated hood or one attached by the original system designed for that purpose by the manufacturer. The seams must be sealed.
The jacket must not have sections of fabric which are not waterproof, but air vents fitted by the manufacturer (under-arm, in the back) are accepted since they do not damage impermeability in any obvious way. The runner must judge whether the jacket complies with the regulations and is suitable for bad weather in the mountains; during a check, the race director's opinion on the matter shall prevail.
Two headtorches
Two fully working headtorches or chest lamps with adjustable power, with a backup power supply system for each. Recommended output: 200 lumens. Phones and watches are not accepted as a light source. For lamps using batteries or removable battery packs: plan one set of spare batteries or spare battery packs for each of the two lamps. For rechargeable lamps with no removable batteries: a portable external battery (power bank) is tolerated provided one of the two lamps is always usable (in particular while the other is charging) and the power bank has a minimum capacity of 5000mAh and is fully charged at the race start.
Red light beam
In order to limit disturbance to wildlife within the Contamines-Montjoie Nature Reserve, one of the two required head or chest lamps must be fitted with a red light beam directed forwards.
Any device emitting light to the rear will be considered non-compliant.
Running pack
Or other carrying equipment suitable for attaching a timing chip, intended to carry the mandatory equipment.
Must be worn throughout the race.
Self-adhering elastic bandage
For bandaging or strapping. Minimum 100cm x 6cm.
Cap, bandana, or multifunctional neck gaiter
Designed to protect the head from the sun.
Waterproof overpants

OR the combination of a long-sleeved warm undergarment (first or second layer, excluding cotton) weighing at least 110g (men's size medium - M) and a windproof jacket with durable water-repellent (DWR) protection.
The wind-proof jacket does not replace the mandatory waterproof jacket, and vice versa.

Or multifunctional neck gaiter, which may be the same as the one mentioned above.
Warm and water-proof gloves
Personal beaker
15cl minimum.
Bottles or flasks with lids are not accepted.

Technical fabric and opaque even when stretched, with a dense knit; predominantly synthetic composition (polyamide and/or polyester) with elastane; cotton prohibited.
Item 1 of the Additional List, which may be activated by the race director depending on weather conditions. Tights do not replace the waterproof trousers. No marked transparency on thighs/glutes; any clear transparency results in refusal if there is doubt as to the intended sporting use.
